Special Deputies are unpaid
volunteers who are State certified in accordance with Ohio law and exercise the same powers of
arrest as paid, full-time Deputies. Meeting on a monthly basis and
performing their duties under the supervision of a full-time deputy, Special
Deputies provide an essential role to the Sheriff’s Office. Serving the Sheriff’s Office to
supplement the regular Deputy force, Special Deputies also assist other entities
with events such as fairs, festivals and parades. Proceeds from fundraisers
overseen by the Special Deputies are used to purchase equipment used by the
Sheriff’s Office. A new building donated to the
Sheriff’s Office by the Special Deputies was utilized during the 2003 Hocking
County Fair. The building serves as an office and can be set-up at festivals,
fairs, or other areas where a portable office may be needed. Generous donations from local
businesses provided funding for this project. Construction of the building and
overseeing of the project was Special Deputy Keith Farmer.
