Hocking Overdose Partnership Endeavor (Project HOPE) logo

The Hocking Overdose Partnership Endeavor (Project HOPE) is a coalition of community partners in Hocking County, Ohio that work together to provide rapid access to treatment and recovery supports to individuals who have experienced a drug overdose or are at risk of an overdose. Community partners include the Athens-Hocking-Vinton Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board (The 317 Board), the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, the Hocking County Health Department, South Central Job and Family Services, Hopewell Health Centers, TASC of Southeast Ohio, Hocking County Children’s Services, Hocking EMS, and the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office.

The main objective of Project HOPE is to identify those individuals in the community who have experienced an overdose or are at risk of a drug overdose, connect them to a treatment provider as soon as possible, offer Narcan, and support them through the treatment and recovery process. To do this, the Project HOPE Team makes weekly home visits to people who have been referred to the team from a variety of sources. The team consists of a law enforcement officer (in casual clothes and an unmarked car), rapid access treatment providers, and a community health nurse.  The team has a helpful and caring approach that is well-received by the people they meet. The benefits provided by the team visits include rapid access to a treatment provider, connection to detox or residential treatment planning, distribution of life-saving Narcan, hepatitis education, and other resource information.

Since its inception in April 2018, Project HOPE has been very successful in helping people with substance use disorders gain access to treatment and recovery services in Hocking County and is excited to continue doing so in the future.
