The Hocking County Sheriff's Office respects your privacy. This policy explains what information this website collects and how it is used.
Information we collect
This website does not require you to register or provide personal information to browse its pages. Information is collected only when you choose to submit it, such as when you complete a crime tip, records request, vacation house check, feedback, or contact form.
How information is used
Information you submit is used only to respond to your request or report. It is shared within the Sheriff's Office as needed to handle the matter, and may be disclosed as required by Ohio public records law (Ohio Revised Code §149.43) or other legal requirements.
Forms and third-party services
Some features on this site are provided by outside services. When you use them, that provider's own privacy practices also apply:
- EmailMeForm hosts the online forms embedded on this site (crime tips, public records requests, vacation house checks, employee compliments, the corrections questionnaire, and the contact form). Information you type into those forms is transmitted to EmailMeForm and delivered to the Sheriff's Office by email.
- Instagram (Meta), delivered through Elfsight, supplies the social media feed on the home page. Loading that feed contacts Elfsight and Instagram, which may set their own cookies and record your visit.
- Google Maps provides the office location map on the Contact Us page.
- Smart911 is an outside emergency notification service. Signing up takes place on the Smart911 website, not this one.
The Sheriff's Office does not control these services and does not receive tracking data from them. Fonts and icons used on this site are served from our own web server, so browsing the site does not contact any outside font or content network.
Log files
Our web host may record standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and the date and time of the visit. This information is used for site security and to understand general usage. It is not used to identify individual visitors.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies of its own and uses no advertising or analytics trackers. The embedded Instagram feed, forms, and map may set their own cookies when those features load.
Children
This website is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Do not use website forms to report an emergency. For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency dispatch, call 740-385-2131.
